Alimosho Council Election
Excos Endorse Preferred Candidate, Exploit Aspirants in Disregard to Party Guidelines
The political jobbers dubbed Alimosho leaders are at it again, but their approach this time is not only disgraceful but also highly disgusting.
About 24 hours after the announcement of the suspension of Alimosho Local Government Council Chairmen, Hon. Sulaiman Jelili, it was reliably gathered that the caretaker executives in Agbado-Oke-Odo invited all the aspirants to a parley at the party Secretariat. As committed party members who anticipated fairness from the party they all belonged to, they decided to honour the invitation. But on arrival, they were told that 'the party' would attend to them one after the other and that a particular aspirant would be attended to by 3pm. According to the arrangement, all other aspirants must have been attended to and must have left. Little did the unsuspecting aspirants know that, 'the party's' preferred candidate already had his nomination form in their custody and that they merely wanted to exploit the innocent aspirants. These callous caretaker executives went further to demand and collected money from these aspirants before they were allowed to leave.
After the other aspirants exit, these heartless monsters in human skin unanimously endorsed their anointed aspirant. They had group photographs
with him and posted the pictures on their various social media platforms telling party members that the party candidate for the Chairmanship position for the forthcoming local government election had remerged. The endorsed candidate was no other than the sitting council chairman, Hon. David Famuyiwa - an aspirant who the electorate would do everything possible to unseat. Famuyiwa is far from being the people's choice.
Is this truly the position of our party? What is the essence of the party guidelines and even the Hamzat-led committee set up by the state party? For how long shall our party, at the state watch the shenanigans being practised in Alimosho all in the name of Baba Sọ pe?
Prior to the endorsement ceremony, all other aspirants in Agbado Oke-Odo had picked their nomination forms in anticipation for a free and fair contest. The disturbing lines are, if there will be any consensus, there must have been a wide and reasonable consultation, the result could never have been Famuyiwa if such consultation was done truly within the relevant stakeholders in Agbado Oke-Odo.
Alimosho APC is not bigger than the party at the state level. A drastic step must therefore be taken by the Hamzat-led committee and all other concerned individuals and interests the party is supposed to protect. Democracy, in Alimosho, is in danger and we cannot pretend that all is well when the entire system is in a quagmire.
For how long shall we continue to do things the wrong way and expect a positive result?
