Yayi Finally Decides Between Lagos and Ogun West

After GAC Appointment, Yayi Abandons Lagos Politics

The battle for recognition and continuous relevance has become a trademark among Nigerian political elites. Less than 72 hours after his appointment into the Lagos State APC Governor's Advisory Council, Senator Yayi issued a very loud body language to indicate his transfer from Lagos to Ogun to continue his political career.

It would be recalled that the Senator has been facing lots of opposition in Lagos over his plans to represent Lagos-West in the Senate for the third term. The Senator has been in government since 2003 and by 2023, he would have represented Alimosho and Lagos-West in the state Assembly and both chambers of the National Assembly, respectively for uninterrupted 20 years. While the people of Alimosho are not against his continuous politicking, they have said enough is enough for a third term ticket in the Senate.

Build up to the 2015 general elections, Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, while still representing Lagos West in the Senate, attempted to shift to Ogun State for the 2019 governorship race but was heavily resisted and returned to Lagos. Though he was pardoned and reconsidered and given a second term ticket to represent Lagos-West in the Senate, he has been working underground, romancing the people of Ogun towards the 2023 elections.

Lately, Yayi has been working to secure the Senatorial ticket for Ogun West, an attempt to oust the current Senator, Tolu Odebiyi who is having his first term in the Senate. The Senator's ultimate scheme is to spend one more term in the Senate before contesting in the 2027 gubernatorial race in Ogun State. In his bid to achieve this, Yayi has been romancing and tempting Ogun electorate with unscrupulous funds and lots of other mouthwatering offers.

Not too long ago, to further assure the residents of Ogun state of his commitment to run for a political office in the state, Yayi was alleged to have revalidated his party membership registration in Ogun against the general expectation that he would do his membership revalidation in Lagos. Yayi has taken some steps further by shifting his senatorial seat, responsibilities, and assignment from Lagos West to Ogun.

Blood, they say, is thicker than water. This is playing out from how, in December 2020, Yayi proposed a bill in the Senate, seeking to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro to a University. This proposal got onlookers wondering if Yayi's second term election into the Senate is to represent Lagos West or Ogun West. This poorly thought move is depriving Lagos West of a Senator while Ogun West is enjoying the services of two Senators, Yayi and Odebiyi.

Earlier this week, Yayi was appointed into the Lagos GAC and by midweek, he sent a powerful message to Lagosians, notifying them of his migration to Ogun. Yayi invited Yewa Obas

to the upper chamber on Thursday, April 22, 2021, to witness how he moved a motion for a bill. This will be the second time he will be showing this sign of contempt against Lagos West traditional rulers who gave him and our party, the APC their royal and overwhelming support during the recent election, when during his inauguration as a second-term Senator, Lagos West Obas were ignored in favour of the Yewa Obas, at the ceremony.

It is not only an insult to the people of Lagos West who voted massively to bring Yayi for a second term, but a huge slap on the Obas in Lagos West. Yayi has deprived his constituents in Lagos of their rightful representation as he has diverted it to Ogun. He has chosen to spend his remaining years in the upper chamber serving the people of Ogun who did not cast a single vote in getting him to the Assembly. Yayi has betrayed the trust of the people of Alimosho and Lagos West, at large. He has ridiculed the traditional rulers in Lagos.

Troubling questions in the minds of the intellectual are; Has Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan ever invited any Oba in Lagos to the Assembly? Are there no more projects in Lagos West that Yayi can push for in the Assembly? Where is Yayi representing in his second term - Lagos West or Ogun West?

In Yayi's desperation to tell the world that he is a true son of Yewa, he has chosen to betray the people of Lagos West who worked under the sun and rain to ensure he returned to the Red Chamber for the second time despite having an option.

Having drawn a battle like between himself and the electorate of Lagos West, will Senator Yayi hold on to his recent appointment in the GAC or will he replicate his ingratitude to the GAC and the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu? Only time will tell.
