Yayi Set To Move To Ogun
APC Membership Registration: Yayi Set To Move To Ogun
As members of the All Progressives Congress continue to troop out en masse for the ongoing party Membership Registration and Revalidation Exercise, high profiled notables within the party display their new membership cards online to authenticate to the public their membership in the party. The trend of taking photographs and posting online began when President Muhammadu Buhari had his registration in hometown, Daura.
This voluntary tradition reassures their teaming followers of their stand and membership in the party. However, even as the exercise runs to its end, the Senator representing Lagos Southwest, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi kept his constituents in suspense as he has neither been seen at any registration center or, like others, showcase his membership card to his people.
This growing concern led to several insinuations where some people claimed he was preparing to dump the APC to contest in another party, following his rejection for a third term ticket by his constituents in Lagos West. According to them, Yayi has been in government since 1999 and was either due for retirement or a new office but definitely not Lagos West again. In clear words, they have rejected his scheme to return to the Senate for a third term.
However, recent developments have shown that Yayi, who has been making arrangements to relocate to Ogun West for his next Senatorial ticket, (hence the reason for his new slogan, "From West To West"), has finally revalidated his party membership in Ogun West to establish his determination to contest in Ogun for his 2023 Senatorial ticket. However, even on this, Yayi is yet to display his membership ticket, which some people have frankly demanded that he shows to the world, like other leaders. According to them, it is necessary unless the Senator has a plan of registering in both states, an act which is against the party constitution. However, some people have opined that Yayi is being careful about showcasing his new membership card as he is aware that questions would be asked as to whether he did it in Lagos and Ogun, knowing that if they discover he did it in Lagos, the people of Ogun West would use it against him when he begins his full campaign, same way, the people of Lagos West would take his registration in Ogun as a clear message that he has finally moved his politics to Ogun and not recontesting in Lagos, come 2023.
A few days after the commencement of the registration exercise, after seeing how different top politicians across the state displayed their new membership cards after registration, Alimosho residents asked, "where is our Senator." This is no doubt, a very tough challenge for the Senator as the exercise gradually winds up.
It would be recalled that notables like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu, Rt. Hon. Speaker, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Her Excellency, Adejoke Orelope Adefulire, Hon. Bisi Yusuff, and even the Alimosho self-acclaimed Apex Leader, Alhaji Abdullahi Enilolobo and lots more have had their membership revalidated and cards displayed to the world for conviction. It remains a mystery how the most Senior serving politician in Alimosho Federal Constituency would keep his registration a secret or consider it unnecessary for his constituents to ascertain.
We, hereby, call on Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi to stop hiding behind a finger and come to the fore, so the people of Lagos West and Ogun West would know what his next line of action is. As a matter of urgency, Yayi needs to clear speculations and reaffirm to the people.
Meanwhile, party members have applauded the ongoing Membership Registration and Revalidation Exercise as a necessity required to reposition the party and admit new members. It would be recalled that during the 2019 Presidential campaign, Alhaji Buba Galadima claimed he was still a member of the APC, since he still had his membership card with him. This exercise will separate the grains from the chaff, as it redefines the party from the Zonal to the National level.
